The 130 ha. of vineyards are the most precious agricultural asset in Monte Julia. The allow us to elaborate many different wines in our winery. We elaborate only with the grapes we grow. Great priority is given to achive the highest possible grape growing quality. The five different areas where vines were planted are as follows:
PAGO EL SASO
In this loamy soil, poor in organic matter (1,1% aprox.), we obtain wine from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc varieties. This wines have high chromatism and tanic force (intense colour), optimal properties for the latter wine aging in oak barrels.
PAGO DE LOS CIERVOS
In its poor, rocky sands, and with a bit of salinity we grow grapes from the Graciano and Tempranillo varieties. Wines from this grapes are usually smooth, with good acidity, not very tanic and with generous aroma.
PAGO DE PERAN
Syrah and Tempranillo are grown in this field. These wines enjoy some fruity bouquet, mainly Syrah, and intense colour, especially Tempranillo.
PAGO DEL ROMERAL
This soil is rich in clay. Both Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are planted.
PAGO DE PEÑA ROA
Shallow soil, poor in organic matter (1,3% aprox.) rich in gravel. Syrah and Tempranillo are the varieties planted.
There is also a field planted between 1992 and 1994 with 20 different varieties (50 vines/variety) in order to study their acclimation and later potential use for wine production.
